Good Practice in Data Collection
The resources in this section will help you design and carry out robust, repeatable surveys; collecting data that can be added to over time, or used as standalone datasets.
Included here are guides to using each of the three ‘tools’ currently included in the toolkit; The RILEM Tube test, Microwave Moisture Meter test, and Colorimeter test. Each of these guides includes an overview of what the test involves, any equipment needed, and detailed method statement for collecting data. Also included in each of these guides are example data recording sheets to help new users ensure they record all important information at the time of survey.
Also included here are four Experimental Design Statement documents, which link to a decision making tool located in the first section of each instrument-specific data collection method guide, and should be referred to before any data collection is undertaken. These statements set out how to plan and carry out a range of survey types which can be used for each of the tools in the toolkit, and can also be used as general guides for the creation of on-site datasets.
